Smuggle meat into Malaysia? Photo: Oriental Daily
One would think it is the other way round, that is someone would try to smuggle goods into Singapore via the JB Causeway. But this one is crazy. In a daring smuggling attempt at the Johor Bahru checkpoint, a 36-year-old man aimed to transport 130kg of frozen meat into Malaysia. Vigilant officers discovered the illicit cargo during a routine inspection, with 120kg of frozen pork and 10kg of beef hidden in the car.
The meticulous packing in black garbage bags hinted at a well-planned operation. The Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services (MAQIS) intercepted the car from Singapore, exposing a significant breach of quarantine and import regulations. The lack of a permit led to the seizure of the illegally imported meat, showcasing the audacity and creativity involved in such smuggling endeavors.
