Recently, there has been a debate between UiTM students and the admission of non-Bumiputera students in their campuses. There is a new campaign in relation to wearing black in order to protest against this issue. However, social media users are angry at these protests.
Additionally, users state that non-Bumiputeras are also Malaysian citizens and should be given the same opportunity as others. Furthermore, there are calls for the university to accept non-Bumis in or for the government to actually create another university for them.
Others add that these universities were made in a time where the Bumiputera population was severely underprivileged. However, there are certain specialized courses that these universities have that would benefit the country if other races were able to learn this specialty as well.
