A man whose video went viral for inappropriately touching a woman at a home repair shop in Selayang last week was charged in the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate’s Court today. Irwan Iesa, 38, an e-hailing driver, pleaded not guilty before Magistrate Aina Azahra Ariffin.
He is accused of criminally using force to outrage the modesty of the 38-year-old woman at the shop on the afternoon of June 4. The charge, under Section 354 of the Penal Code, carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, a fine, or whipping, upon conviction.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Izzat Amir Idham proposed a bail of RM7,000 with one surety, but lawyer Gan Sing Gee from the National Legal Aid Foundation requested a lower bail, citing the accused’s pregnant wife.
