In Parliament, DAP’s Lim Lip Eng demanded answers over claims that MACC warned Sabah mining scandal whistleblower Albert Tei against coming forward. Lim said it was shocking for an enforcement agency tasked with combating corruption to threaten a whistleblower, raising concerns about MACC’s credibility. Tei’s lawyer revealed he had approached MACC before exposing the scandal to Malaysiakini, but was warned off. Lim questioned if Putrajaya intended to punish whistleblowers rather than protect them, undermining the Whistleblower Protection Act 2010. Tei, alongside two Sabah assemblypersons, now faces graft charges despite revealing alleged bribes involving nine politicians and mining licences.
