Malaysia Hosts Four-Party Talks on Thai-Cambodia Border Dispute

Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow met his Cambodian counterpart in Malaysia to address rising border tensions between the two nations. The meeting, hosted by Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad Hasan as ASEAN Chair, was part of four-party consultations involving the U.S., Thailand, Cambodia, and Malaysia.

Discussions focused on withdrawing heavy weaponry, joint demining, and tackling transnational crime. The talks follow a July 24 military confrontation in the Oddar Meanchey–Preah Vihear region. Both countries have since agreed to de-escalate. Malaysia, the U.S., and China continue to monitor the situation closely as Thailand and Cambodia work toward lasting peace along their 817km border.
