KUALA LUMPUR – More than 10 opposition MPs and state assemblymen have expressed interest in joining Umno’s ‘Rumah Bangsa’ initiative, revealed Umno secretary‑general Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki. He said the group had previously contested against Barisan Nasional but are now keen to return, though legal hurdles such as the Anti‑Party Hopping Act remain.
Opposition Lawmakers
Speculation points to Bersatu lawmakers recently suspended or expelled, including Mersing MP Muhammad Islahuddin Abas and several Kelantan and Terengganu assemblymen. Last week, Bersatu’s disciplinary board removed or suspended multiple MPs and Aduns, intensifying talk of defections. Names were not disclosed pending legal considerations.
