A viral post on X states that Nasi Lemak, the popular Malaysian dish, is from Singapore. However, a number of Malaysians vehemently disagree with this rhetoric as the dish is one of our most recognisable ones.
User claims Nasi Lemak is from Singapore
X users made several controversial comments regarding the issue claiming that Singapore in itself is from Malaysia. This is stemmed from the fact that we both were one country in the mid 1960s.
Others made jokes citing that the dish is actually from Thailand, to which others vehemently disagree. Regardless, food origins are a sensitive topic among those living in the Southeast Asian region, particularly between the Philippines, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand.
