Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim defended the 300-litre monthly cap under the Budi95 fuel subsidy, saying it exceeds the needs of 98% of Malaysians. Surveys show average usage is around 150L, with most motorists not exceeding 220L.
300L Fuel Cap Covers Most Drivers
Initially set at 250L, the cap was raised to 300L to avoid penalising higher-mileage drivers. From September 30, eligible Malaysians can purchase RON95 petrol at RM1.99/L up to the cap, after which the market rate of RM2.60/L applies.
Critics argue the limit burdens those driving over 500L monthly, but data shows the allocation covers typical urban commuting distances.
