KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia has recorded 70 cases of maternal deaths due to Covid-19 since the pandemic began, says the Health Ministry on Wednesday (Aug 11).

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 17 of the deaths occurred from June 2021, when the numbers began to surge.

“The Health Ministry views the matter of Covid-19 infection among pregnant women seriously, as this is a group that has a high risk of getting severe infection, besides the elderly and individuals with comorbidities,” he says.
