Apple’s App Store has seen a surge in new app submissions since the mainstream adoption of agentic and vibe coding in 2025. Data from Sensor Tower shows iOS app releases in the U.S. grew 54.8% year-over-year in January, following a 56% jump in December — the highest rate in four years.
AI Coding Sparking Surge in App Store Submissions
While AI tools have made app creation easier, developers complain that approval times are lengthening. Some report waiting weeks for updates, despite Apple’s claim that 90% of submissions are reviewed within 48 hours. Apple says it processes over 200,000 submissions weekly with an average review time of 1.5 days.
Analysts warn that stricter reviews may frustrate developers but are necessary to curb low-quality “AI slop.” Forrester’s Dipanjan Chatterjee argues Apple must evolve from “artisanal gatekeeping” to scalable curation as AI accelerates app creation, ensuring quality while supporting new developers entering the ecosystem.
