UMNO Youth Chief Datuk Dr Akmal Saleh has urged the government to expedite the tabling of the political funding bill to ensure transparency in financial contributions to political parties. He stressed that prosecuting only those who receive funds is insufficient, calling for action against donors as well to deter corruption.
“They must feel fear too. That’s why the political funding act is crucial — that way (we can) know both the giver and the receiver,” Akmal said in a statement on Monday.

The call follows the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) confirmation that former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob is now a suspect in a corruption and money laundering case involving RM170 million in seized cash.
