Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Democratic Action Party (DAP) grassroots members in Johor are frustrated after receiving no state or local council positions despite helping Barisan Nasional (BN) win the Mahkota by-election. Johor is the only state in Peninsular Malaysia where PH lacks representation in local councils. DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke explained that Johor’s current government was formed before the 2022 general election, and PH never proposed a unity government there. However, local DAP leaders believe PH should secure positions in future councils, especially when current BN councillors’ terms end in December 2025, ahead of the next state election.
