Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg has dismissed reports claiming the state intends to acquire a stake in AMMB Holdings Bhd (AmBank Group) for a merger with Affin Bank Bhd, calling them mere speculation.

He also denied that the state government had sent any representatives to AmBank to discuss the matter. “I was surprised to read the media report… it’s just speculation. I have no comment because I know nothing about it,” he told reporters at a RECODA Raya event.
However, Abang Johari added that Sarawak remains open to collaboration with any entities if approached officially.
