Negeri Sembilan Opposition Leader Mohamad Hanifah Abu Baker criticised Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s recent announcements of fuel price reductions and cash aid, saying they were a panicked response to the planned “Himpunan Turun Anwar” protest this Saturday. Hanifah suggested such “extraordinary” handouts would not have been announced without the public pressure. He added that Anwar appeared “extremely panicked” by the upcoming rally, implying the Prime Minister only acts under threat of protest. Hanifah, who is also Negeri Sembilan Bersatu chairman, sarcastically suggested that monthly demonstrations be held to ensure Anwar fulfils his reform promises and addresses people’s economic struggles.
