KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 9 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s leadership credentials and governance record have given Pakatan Harapan (PH) a significant advantage ahead of the 16th General Election (GE16), which is expected within the next year, according to an academic.
Professor Dr Mohd Afandi Salleh of Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA) said Anwar offers voters a known leadership figure whose administrative performance can be assessed, particularly in economic development and social progress.
He said certainty over the prime ministerial candidate remains a political strength for PH, especially when rival groups seeking to challenge the government have yet to reach a consensus on their leadership.

“Anwar’s advantage is not merely based on his position as the incumbent. He has experience managing the economy, handling international relations and bringing together parties with differing interests within the unity government, including those from Sabah and Sarawak,” he said.
Mohd Afandi noted that any potential Barisan Nasional-PAS alliance aiming to take over Putrajaya must clearly identify its prime ministerial candidate, outline common policies and explain how it would form a stable government.
