Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has warned that strict action, including arrest and prosecution, will be taken against anyone who abuses or mismanages government funds entrusted to them.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the 2026 National Hawkers and Small Traders Day Carnival in Kajang on November 1, Anwar said agencies responsible for distributing financing must ensure assistance reaches the intended recipients without leakages or corruption. He specifically named TEKUN Nasional, Bank Rakyat and Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia as institutions carrying significant responsibility in supporting entrepreneurs and small businesses.

Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, stressed that public allocations must be treated as money held in trust, warning those who betray that responsibility that they could be arrested and charged. He credited improved governance and reduced leakages for the government’s ability to expand assistance and public spending.
He cited RM16 billion allocated for next year’s Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah and Sumbangan Asas Rahmah programmes, alongside RM18 billion for civil service salary adjustments this year. Anwar also said federal assistance should reach Malaysians regardless of which political coalition governs their state, rejecting claims that opposition-led states are being sidelined. He urged all parties to reject corruption and abuse of power while upholding integrity in public service.
