Arsenal suffered a shock 2-1 defeat to Championship side Southampton in the FA Cup quarter-finals at St Mary’s. Ross Stewart opened the scoring before Viktor Gyokeres equalised, but Shea Charles struck late to seal Southampton’s win. Arsenal, missing Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka, also lost Gabriel Magalhaes to injury.
Arteta laments
Manager Mikel Arteta lamented defensive errors and wasted chances, admitting his side failed to manage long balls and pressure. The loss ends Arsenal’s hopes of a first FA Cup triumph since 2020, following their League Cup final defeat to Manchester City. Arteta urged his players to “show what we are made of.”
