Track cyclist Azizulhasni Awang, the nation’s gold medal hope, set a new national record in the men’s individual sprint qualifying but was knocked out by Netherlands’ Jeffrey Hoogland in the third round.

Teammate Shah Firdaus Sahrom and debutante Izzah Izzati Asri were eliminated in the first round of their events. Weightlifter Aniq Kasdan narrowly missed the podium in the men’s under-61kg class, while diver Nur Dhabitah Sabri advanced to the women’s 3-meter springboard semi-finals. Golfer Ashley Lau shot an even-par 72 in her opening round.
