There is already a word for “barista” in Malay, which is quite supposedly “pembuat kopi.” However, netizens feel that they need to amplify things by saying that it should be “jurulatte.” It seems that this idea is well received among other social media users.

Others told the original poster, there might be cafes popping up in Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya with that very name after this viral tweet. Furthermore, it does sound like a good brand name for a coffee shop.
Another user states that they should be called “tukang bancuh air” which literally translates to a brewer. Regardless, it is an interesting idea, but the official definition is still unclear on what these coffee brewers should be named as.
