KUALA LUMPUR – The Cabinet has decided not to pursue legal action against former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad over Malaysia’s 2018 withdrawal of its claim to Pulau Batu Puteh. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim told Parliament the decision was made considering Mahathir’s age, despite acknowledging his fault. “We agreed not to take action because he is 100 years old,” Anwar said, adding that prosecuting Mahathir could be deemed unfair by the Opposition. A Royal Commission of Inquiry last year recommended criminal investigation over the withdrawal, which halted Malaysia’s review bid of the 2008 ICJ ruling that awarded Batu Puteh to Singapore.
