Bazaar Trader’s ‘Infaq’ Appeal During Heavy Rain Sparks Online Debate

1 min read

A bazaar trader’s social media post appealing for “infaq” (donations) after heavy rain disrupted business has sparked mixed reactions online. The trader shared that continuous downpour had left the Ramadan bazaar nearly empty, with food still unsold past 7.30pm. He invited those willing to help to contribute by purchasing the remaining meals, saying the situation was challenging due to poor turnout.

Ramadan Bazaar Infaq Post Divides Netizens

The post quickly gained traction, drawing thousands of reactions and comments. Some netizens criticised the move, questioning whether the appeal blurred the line between charity and business. One user remarked that traders should not use the concept of infaq as business capital, while another sarcastically commented about “niaga zaman sekarang.”

However, others defended the trader, arguing that small business owners also face losses and that contributing could be seen as supporting livelihoods during Ramadan. Some users even asked about delivery options and the bazaar’s location.
