Police in Perlis have dismantled a bitcoin mining syndicate that illegally tapped electricity from Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) supply lines across Kangar and Kuala Perlis. Raids on three premises between November 13 and 15 led to the seizure of 40 mining machines and equipment worth RM421,690, with monthly losses to TNB estimated at RM150,000.
Illegal Mining Operations Cost TNB
A man in his late 20s was arrested and remanded until November 20. Authorities say the syndicate used shoplots and residential units to conceal operations, tampering with circuits to evade detection. The case is being investigated under the Penal Code and Electricity Supply Act 1990.
