Kluang Umno chief Jais Sarday expressed confidence that Barisan Nasional (BN) will secure the Mahkota state seat by a 10,000-vote majority in the upcoming by-election. This target is double the majority achieved by the late Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain in the 2022 state polls. Jais noted that while voter turnout in the previous election was about 57%, he expects it to rise to 70% this time.

He highlighted the different voter composition in Mahkota, which includes 56% Malays, 38% Chinese, and 18% Indians, and mentioned that BN would adapt their strategy accordingly. The by-election follows Sharifah Azizah’s death on August 2, with nominations on September 14 and early voting on September 24.
