PKR Tambun (PMX seat) has urged the government to delay targeted subsidies on RON95 petrol until after Malaysia’s 16th General Election (PRU16). During their recent annual meeting, attended by 700 delegates and officiated by PKR Vice President Nurul Izzah Anwar, Tambun members expressed concerns that implementing subsidies only for certain groups could open the government to criticism for being insensitive toward citizens. They worry that “cartels” may exploit the situation by inflating prices, and opposition parties could politicize the decision. While Tambun supports the policy in principle, they advocate for postponement to avoid negative impacts on the unity government’s image.
