1 min read

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called for an immediate halt to cartel practices in Malaysia’s agricultural sector. He criticized the outdated system of importing seeds through cartels and monopolies, emphasizing that future decisions should prioritize farmers, fishermen, and smallholders. Speaking at the Malaysia Agriculture, Horticulture and Agrotourism Exhibition 2024, Anwar stressed the need for a holistic, data-driven approach involving the Agriculture and Food Security Ministry. He also urged restructuring the entire agricultural ecosystem to eliminate monopolies in seed and fertilizer supply. Anwar hopes government subsidies will significantly benefit those in the agricultural sector. – September 14, 2024.
