It is official, Celcom and Digi’s merger has finally been approved by MCMC. Celcom’s subsidiary operator, Yoodo, will shut their operations down due to the merger. MCMC has said that they have thoroughly assessed the situation and made sure the merger will still lead to healthy competition.
Netizens complained about Celcom and Maxis’ services and shared their concerns where Digi has been a better telco for them in recent years, and they hope their services will still remain as such. The merger will make their new corporation the largest telco in Malaysia.
The new company will be called MergeCo and will commence operations by late 2022. Digi and Celcom are the second and third largest telcos respectively and their merger will shake up the industry in the coming years.
