A viral Instagram Reel video shows that a customer is complaining about their Chanel bag peeling at the straps. They allege that it is an authentic bag, and that it was made out of PU leather. This is a bold accusation towards the French luxury brand as they are known for using real leather for their items, especially at their price points.

The video shows that the bag straps of a Gabrielle bag is peeling. Some commenters are doubting the authenticity of it, while others are claiming that the same thing is happening to them. Allegedly, it is a common problem with that specific line of bags, and especially at their high price points, it is expected for it to not happen at all.
Another commenter states that they noticed a glue stain on their Chanel bag, and they were shocked. But, many users on the comments section agree that the brand’s quality is somewhat going down in recent years.
Redditors state that luxury brands using a form of PU leather is not an entirely new thing. Apparently, Louis Vuitton allegedly used a synthetic leather called “Vuitionnite” which is a problematic material. It was made out of vinyl and it’s in most of their bags that were made in the 1990s.
Luxury YouTube Expert, Super Dacob states in his live stream that he has had negative experience with the 22 bag. Regardless, the woman who purchased the bag claimed that she bought it from the boutique.
For the time being, it is mere speculation if the brand is actually using PU leather for their straps and other compartments.
