It is a new phenomenon where luxury brands are raising their prices to exorbitant amounts. Christian Dior does price increases but not as often as Gucci or Chanel. Luxury customers are deciding on whether these brands are still worth it or not. Back in the 1950s, Dior’s clientele were only the significantly wealthy, but unfortunately it wasn’t as profitable for them.
Christian Dior’s price rises
A prominent YouTuber who is a regular customer for these brands, Sophie Shohet comments about this. The prices of some of their items have increased by RM3,500 for a Lady Dior bag. Typically, many would think that RM3,500 alone is enough to buy a lot of things as it is. However, in the luxury world, these numbers are simply numbers.
The reality of then and now, haute couture, which is what brands like Christian Dior and Chanel are known for, is unprofitable. Hence, the diversification of them selling ready to wear and handbags became the norm. However, at the rate of these price increases, will they be able to continue on selling their items and maintain profitability?
