Consumers Flock Back to Starbucks Malaysia as Price and Quality Unmatched

1 min read

The boycott against Starbucks in Malaysia began after the October 2023 conflict in the Middle East. Starbucks, along with several other American chains, faced widespread disassociation despite the brand being locally owned in Malaysia. Many Malaysians were vocal about their decision to boycott the coffee shop.

According to reports, Starbucks Malaysia is seeing improved sales as the boycott tapers off, said Berjaya Group founder Vincent Tan. He noted consumers are more realistic about Starbucks Malaysia, which has no links to the Israel-Palestine conflict. The company will now focus on consolidating its business and welcoming customers back.

Customers flock back to Starbucks

An X user claims that Starbucks’ quality is unmatched in comparison to some independent or artisan coffee stores. The price difference could also be another pin point as some “hipster” cafes may charge over RM25 for a cup of coffee.

Another user adds that these establishments that allegedly tried to copy them failed in lieu of the similar price range and lower quality. The prices for a cup of coffee in said chain is relatively worth the money according to some.

Others state that it is the ambiance of Starbucks. The brand has engineered a way to make a coffee shop cozy and inviting. Their competitors may have not entirely cracked the formula on setting up a cozy comfortable ambiance.
