The Federal Court of Malaysia ruled that gambling debts are not legally enforceable, as betting is against public policy. The decision came from an appeal by businessman Ting Ching Lee, who sought to dismiss a RM6 million gambling debt claim by tour agent Ting Siu Hua. The court emphasized that gambling remains a vice despite licensed premises operating in the country. It reaffirmed that such debts, including casino credit facilities, are considered “debts of honour” and not legally binding. Siu Hua was ordered to pay RM200,000 in costs, overturning the Court of Appeal’s earlier ruling.
