The Court of Appeal increased compensation for cameraman Wee You Kheong, whose left leg was amputated due to medical negligence, awarding him an additional RM501,694. This raises his total damages beyond the RM783,000 granted by the High Court last year.
Damages for Cameraman
The panel raised compensation for pain and suffering from RM125,000 to RM300,000 and granted RM300,000 in aggravated damages, citing attempts by a surgeon and a private hospital to conceal their negligence. Wee also received RM26,694 for expenses. The court found merit in his appeal and ordered the surgeon and Putra Specialist Hospital (Melaka) to pay RM30,000 each in costs.
