Kuala Lumpur: Unsheltered homelessness—which includes people who live in cars, parks or abandoned buildings—has been rising for the past few years an increase of 30 per cent since 2015, says The Economist.
Some 226,000 Americans were living unsheltered in December 2020. Rough sleepers accounted for about 39% of the country’s total homeless population last year.
The broader problem is about to get worse says the magazine because a federal moratorium on evictions for those behind on their rent ended on July 31st. it was part of a pandemic relief measure.
California and Washington state have rent moratoriums of their own that are expiring at the end of September. Many more people may become homeless!
