29 Arrested in New Crackdown on Migrant Smuggling Syndicate

The Immigration Department busted an Indonesian migrant smuggling syndicate in Kajang, Selangor. The operation, involving Intelligence and Special Operations Division officers, resulted in 29 arrests. A 42-year-old man, suspected to be the transporter, was apprehended along with two syndicate members.

Further investigation revealed 13 overstayed while others lacked valid documents. Authorities seized 14 passports, RM13,430 in cash, and a Toyota Vios. The syndicate charged RM1,500-RM2,500 per person and operated for six months.

The case is being investigated under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 and the Immigration Act 1959/63.
