Crop Seed Quality Bill to Be Tabled in 2026 to Protect Farmers
Currently in the stakeholder engagement phase, the bill addresses the lack of existing laws to penalise those who distribute poor-quality seeds. Agriculture Department director-general Datuk Nor Sam Alwi said the legislation would give farmers a proper complaint channel.
Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu assured that the law is meant to support, not burden, farmers. It forms part of broader efforts to modernise agriculture and improve seed distribution transparency.
