KUALA LUMPUR, March 14, 2025 – Despite DAP’s public stance of unity, former Jelutong MP Jeff Ooi warns of inevitable internal clashes as the party’s March 16 elections loom. In Sinchew Daily, Ooi claims veteran factions are rallying behind preferred candidates, with a traditional ‘menu’ of endorsed names emerging via a barter system among state committees. He predicts Perak’s representation in the 30-member CEC will rise to five, while Kuala Lumpur’s drops due to retiring veterans Tan Kok Wai and Fong Kui Lun. Deputy Secretary-General Liew Chin Tong, however, insists the party remains intact. According to him, every DAP leader has their strategy, including the “Lim Camp” trying to go against the tide. Meanwhile, Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and DAP Penang Chairman Steven Sim need to ramp up ‘guerrilla attacks’ to strengthen their positions ahead of the party elections.
