Pressure is mounting within DAP for the removal of Lim Guan Eng as party chairperson, as internal rifts stemming from Penang’s leadership dispute continue to escalate.
Speculation of Guan Eng’s alleged attempt to position his sister, Lim Hui Ying, as the next Penang chief minister had sparked backlash ahead of the state DAP election last year. Although Steven Sim won the Penang DAP chairmanship with party secretary-general Anthony Loke’s backing, tensions remain unresolved.

Several party leaders are now urging that Guan Eng be removed as chairperson but retained as a member of the Central Executive Committee (CEC) or Central Working Committee (CWC) to prevent further division.
Insiders claim that unless the Penang dispute is addressed, the infighting could jeopardize the party’s national leadership ahead of the CEC election.
