Residents of Kampung Jalan Papan staged a protest outside the Selangor DAP convention on January 18, 2026, accusing the party of inaction after 29 occupied homes were demolished between November 10–14, 2025, despite written assurances no such action would take place. The operation also led to the arrest of 23 residents and activists. Association vice-secretary Lau Siew Lam voiced deep frustration: “Previously, DAP wasn’t the government, so they could not solve it. But now they are the government already and it is still the same.”
DAP Slammed
She added: “We want what they promised us last time,” referring to the unfulfilled 2018 pledge to build 20’ x 70’ terrace houses priced at RM99,000 for original settlers. Residents recalled a similar broken promise in 2008 when DAP persuaded them to drop a court injunction. The group submitted a memorandum demanding reinstatement of the 2018 decision, fair compensation from developer Melati Ehsan, and a project freeze. Only seven acres of the original 95 have been returned, with 40 houses still standing due to ongoing court cases. The memorandum was handed to DAP officials after a brief meeting with chairman Gobind Singh Deo.
