MELAKA, Oct 25 — Police have reclassified the death of a 21-year-old delivery rider as murder after he succumbed to head injuries allegedly sustained during an unpermitted concert at a cafe in Kampung Jawa last week.
Melaka Tengah district police chief Assistant Commissioner Halim Abas said the victim was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Melaka Hospital on Oct 17 and died at 3.53pm on Oct 21.
Following the victim’s death, police detained 10 male suspects aged between 18 and 25 to assist investigations.

Halim said the event where the incident occurred had been organised without permits from either the police or the local authority.
The case was initially investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt with a dangerous weapon but has since been reclassified under Section 302 for murder.
The incident drew widespread attention on social media after posts on the Threads platform alleged a patron had died at the premises and questioned why the cafe remained operational.
In response, the cafe management denied that the victim died on its premises, stating that he passed away at the hospital after suffering a fall. The management said it had fully cooperated with investigators by providing statements.
The cafe also clarified that it was closed on Oct 18 to facilitate police forensic work and only resumed operations after receiving clearance from authorities.
