Kuala Lumpur: Government contract doctors will go on a one-day strike today amid fears they will face joblessness once their contract is over.
They are also going on strike because of ‘intimidation’ from public hospitals heads.
Protest organisers have asked participants to get permanent doctors to cover their shifts during the strike.
Contract doctors say their fear of facing joblessness after the end of their five-year training. The government has made promises it will extend the contracts by up to four years.
However, doctors see this pledge as a means to stop their strikes.
The Health Ministry has issued warnings to dissuade doctors from going on strike. They are asked to remember their oath.
Meanwhile, Health Ministry DG Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah reminds contract doctors of their ‘oath’.
