Dr New Siu Yee: Discovering a new way to construct DNA Bio Sensors

Dr New Siu Yee was born and bred in a historic seaside town called Port Dickson. She is an Associate Professor at the University of Nottingham, Malaysia. Dr Siu Yee’s research focuses on the development of DNA Nano-sensors.

Dr Siu Yee and the team are currently working on the research which focuses on discovering an efficient way to construct a new generation of DNA Biosensors. These DNA sensors are used to detect miRNA, a short nucleotide which potentially can be used as a cancer biomarker.

According to her, “People always think that science is a male-dominated career but one major thing that needs to be changed is that women scientists should be given equal opportunity and appreciation as men are, in the arena of sciences”.
