Jordan Robotis, 27, faced the terrifying prospect of losing his ability to speak and eat after doctors discovered a tumour lodged between his voice box, tongue, and throat wall. On May 5, surgeons at St Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne, performed a world-first dual-robotic procedure to remove the tumour. Professor Ben Dixon used the da Vinci Xi robot for precise tumour removal, while Dr Edwin Morrison employed the Symani robot to reconnect blood vessels smaller than 1mm. The groundbreaking surgery preserved Robotis’s speech and swallowing functions, marking a remarkable medical breakthrough in robotic-assisted oncology and reconstructive surgery.
