Despite this, the uniform treatment of the top 15% income group, especially in fees for public universities and hospitals, has sparked criticism as being politically motivated rather than policy-driven. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim also reiterated that the Goods and Services Tax (GST) will return only when the minimum wage reaches RM3,000 to RM4,000 monthly. With the current rise to RM1,700, this is unlikely before 2027, or before the next election. But with handouts, winning the next General elections are cleary in mind.
