Malaysia’s former Army chief Tan Sri Muhammad Hafizuddeain Jantan and his wife have pleaded not guilty to money laundering charges involving about RM2.12 million in alleged proceeds, while another former armed forces chief will face separate charges including abuse of power and criminal breach of trust.
Former Military Leaders Charged in High-Profile Corruption Probe
The charges stem from an ongoing investigation by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission into defence procurement contracts, with authorities also charging the ex-Army chief’s wife over alleged laundering of RM77,000 linked to the case.
The probe has led to broader scrutiny of senior military procurement practices, with the government responding by reviewing procurement policies and freezing related decisions to ensure transparency.
