Excavation work carried out by contractor just 30m from pipeline

1 min read

PUTRA HEIGHTS – A gas pipeline explosion on Tuesday, April 1, may be tied to heavy excavation work conducted just 30 meters from the site, according to Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan. Early investigations reveal a contractor was replacing an underground sewerage system using an excavator and backhoe, with work halting on March 30. The excavator, left at the site, is believed buried after the blast, which created a 7-meter deep, 30-meter wide crater and destabilized the surrounding ground. Efforts to stabilize the soil are underway to allow safe investigation, as the backhoe was removed a day prior.
