The Malaysian Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, has expressed the Federal Government’s intention to expand the role of the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (JAKIM) in order to enhance the reputation and status of the nation.
Malaysian Government expanding JAKIM
During a recent meeting with JAKIM’s leadership, Anwar urged them to contribute to shaping the country’s development policies based on the Malaysia MADANI framework. He emphasized the need for JAKIM to align its activities with the ongoing national plans and budgets, such as the 12th Malaysia Plan and the MADANI Budget.
Anwar made these statements at the National-level Quran Recitation and Memorization Ceremony in Butterworth, where he also urged Muslims to engage in discussions on sustainability and values promoted by the Quran, while cautioning against misinterpretations of its verses. He stressed the importance of preserving the sanctity of the holy book and engaging in constructive dialogue to promote positive ideas.
