In his media beat yesterday, PM Anwar Ibrahim exposed the fact that one person has an imported rice monopoly in Malaysia and it is under the company Bernas Bhd, controlled by billionaire tycoon Syed Mokhtar Albukhary.
“Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar is in question for having a rice import monopoly. He achieved this by buying shares worth RM800m from businessman Tan Sri Boon Seng and a further RM400m from former Perlis MB Tan Sri Shahidan Kassim.

“Saya ingin bagi jaminan kerajaan dibawah pimpinan saya tidak akan lagi mengizinkan cara pembolotan kekayaan oleh tokoh-tokoh politik, dengan begitu mudah menghisap darah pesawah padi yang miskin” – says PM Anwar.
