Family’s Mortgage-Free Dream Stalled by 16-Month Construction Delays

In April 2024, my wife and I sold our 4,000-square-foot home in Concrete, Washington, determined to live mortgage-free by building a modest manufactured home on my in-laws’ property. We moved into a 23-foot trailer with our teenage son, three bulldogs, and an iguana, expecting only a short stay.

Family’s Mortgage-Free Dream DELAYED

Sixteen months later, setbacks with permits, wetlands, and inspections have kept us in cramped quarters far longer than planned. Despite the frustrations, our $275,000 project is finally taking shape. Though the trailer life has tested our patience and marriage, we remain hopeful that the dream of simpler, debt-free living will be worth it.
