KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 5 — PAS has called on Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to dismiss Tourism, Arts, and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing after alcoholic drinks were served at the Global Travel Meet. The party’s information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said the minister’s claim that it was a private-sector event was unacceptable since it appeared on Tourism Malaysia’s official website.
Alcohol Controversy
He argued the incident violated Treasury rules and Islamic principles under Article 3 of the Federal Constitution. Fadhli added this was not the first time Tiong had failed to safeguard Muslim sensitivities. The Umno Ulama Council also criticised the matter, saying alcohol sponsorship or service at government events must be firmly rejected.
