Fisherman now escapes death row with 33 years jail for unalive wife

PUTRAJAYA: A fisherman escaped the death penalty after the Federal Court today replaced him with a 33-year prison sentence for killing his wife, 23 years ago. A three-judge panel consisting of Datuk Zabariah Mohd Yusof, Datuk Nordin Hassan and Datuk Abu Bakar Jais set aside the hanging sentence imposed on Abdul Razak Dalek, 71.

Fisherman will not be hanged

This is after allowing his review application under the Review of Death Penalty and Life Imprisonment (Federal Court Provisional Jurisdiction ), Act 2023 which came into effect last year. Abd Razak, 71, was ordered to serve his sentence from the date he was arrested on Sept 3, 2001. Abd Razak was found guilty by the High Court in Johor Bahru in 2006 for killing Rozita Haron, 39, who worked as a cleaner at a hospital. He committed the offense at his brother’s house in Parit Pecah, Parit Jawa, Muar on 3 Sept 2001.
