The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Penang has arrested five police personnel, including a senior officer, on suspicion of soliciting and receiving nearly RM9,000 in bribes to avoid taking action against stolen motorcycle possession.
Five Police Officers Arrested by MACC in Penang Over RM9,000 Bribe
The suspects, aged between their 20s and 40s, were detained yesterday between 2 pm and 5 pm at the MACC Penang office in George Town when they came to give statements. Initial investigations revealed that one suspect accepted the bribe in cash from a workshop owner during an operation in Seberang Perai.
Penang MACC director Datuk S. Karunanithy confirmed the case, which is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009. All suspects were held for 24 hours before being released on bail.
